I have Ford Mondeo MK4 2008 2.0TDCI with automatic gearbox. Check the condenser to see if it’s blocked by debris. If your condenser has taken damage or is clogged up, it can’t remove the heat from the refrigerant. Check to ensure that the electric fan over the condenser is engaging. If the cooling system works better on the highway (where fans aren’t needed), your Mondeo may be having fan issues

The main thing to check is the colour of the oil when it is drained. If it is not exactly the same colour as new stuff then replacing the oil will, it it does anything, will only be a temp fix. If the oil is discoloured then something within the gearbox has, or is failing. The correct fix will be a replacement gbx.

On my mk4.5 2.0tdci I had all of the above it felt terrible and hard to change gear (manual 6speed). This seemed to detioriate at year 3 after the factory lube wore off the linkages. Dealer wanted £350 to replace linkages, so I tried experimenting and.. I have tried a variety of oils, sprays and greases over the last few months.
Disconnect the wire for the parking sensors from the reverse light and see if they work. If on your car the reverse light circuit is controlled by the BCM then it may be sensing the increased current draw and is switching off the supply to the lights.
